LegalTech Soapbox: Lawcadia.

Lawcadia

Our LegalTech Soapbox series is where we put the spotlight on #LegalTech vendors that we think could benefit the legal fraternity and the broader network.

This week, we are casting the spotlight on Lawcadia. Here's everything you need to know.

1. Hi Sacha, tell us the story behind Lawcadia?

Lawcadia is a cloud-based platform that in-house legal teams and their law firms use for matter management, legal intake and triage and legal spend management. The entire legal function benefits from streamlined workflows, greater control of their legal budgets, accurate instructions, built-in document automation, collaboration tools, and actionable insights. The Lawcadia platform can also be used to solve different workflow challenges across legal, risk and compliance such as privacy, data breach reporting, regulatory reporting and more.

Lawcadia was founded in late 2015 by corporate lawyer Warwick Walsh and marketing strategist Sacha Kirk who saw an opportunity to bring innovation and positive change to the legal industry. Lawcadia was developed to bring more structure, transparency and collaboration to the way that legal departments work with their law firms as well as their internal clients.

2. What are the services / products that Lawcadia provides?

Lawcadia is a multi-sided platform, meaning that work can flow seamlessly and securely between internal clients (eg line managers, business units etc), legal teams, and their law firms. To this end, we have designed best practice workflow automation solutions that can be used across the entire matter life-cycle (matter intake, triage, self-service, matter management, document automation, matter RFPs, law firm engagements, legal project management and spend management), as well as specific solutions that can be used to solve certain pain points for regulatory compliance.

The Gadens Breach Manager is an example of a two-sided workflow automation solution that has been designed to help financial organisations navigate and streamline the mandatory breach reporting obligations.  Another example is a DSAR workflow designed to help streamline privacy compliance obligations for Data Subject Access Requests under the GDPR requirements.

3. How does Lawcadia help optimise the daily operations of an in-house legal team?

Every in-house legal team is different in the way that they operate, and they can have very diverse challenges and ways that they need to report and manage their work. We recognise that one size doesn’t fit all which is why we developed Lawcadia Intelligence, our intelligent automation engine, which makes the platform highly configurable and scalable. We work with each client to understand their needs and challenges and how we can map their workflows to our platform or use our own best practice workflows. Importantly, we also focus on automation and efficiency so that manual data entry is avoided and lawyers can easily use tools that save time and add value such as our easy to use document automation, legal project management tools and BI reporting.

4. What do you believe will be the most significant change in how in-house legal teams use technology in the next 10 years?

Technology literacy and adoption in the legal industry has grown astronomically over the past 2 years and we believe that this trend will continue, moderated by a growing cyber security awareness of course!

Over the next 10 years, we expect that in-house legal teams will either organically move into more sophisticated use of Office 365 or invest in fit-for-purpose legal operations platforms which will be the equivalent of the legal operating system. In line with this, document automation and workflow automation adoption will increase, reducing the amount of legal administration and enhancing the ability to offer more self-service legal solutions internally. Further, we see that in-house legal teams will be able to use no-code automation technology like Lawcadia to solve specific problems that impact risk management and compliance across other parts of their organisation, ultimately having a far greater impact in proactively identifying and managing incidents.
