KorumLegal Consultant: Andhitha Mega reflects on her NewLaw journey and the future of technology-enabled legal services.

This month, our KorumLegal Consultant is Andhitha Mega, who has over eight years of experience as a legal consultant specialising in corporate law, contract law, and foreign investment services. Her expertise includes drafting agreements, conducting legal due diligence, obtaining licenses, providing corporate secretarial support, and delivering comprehensive legal advisory services. Andhitha has advised multinational clients from a wide range of industries, helping them to ensure their business activities in Indonesia comply with relevant regulations.

1. Hi Andhitha! Can you tell us a little about the work you have currently been doing? 

I work on a project basis in corporate legal and licensing matters, assisting businesses in ensuring compliance, handling regulatory processes, and navigating legal complexities. 

2. What made you take the leap into working in NewLaw for ALSPs? And why is it a good fit for you?

NewLaw provides a flexible and efficient approach to legal services, aligning with how businesses operate today. I was drawn to this model because it allows me to focus on delivering high-value legal support without the rigid structure of traditional law firms. The emphasis on innovation, efficiency, and client-centric solutions makes it a great fit for my skills and working style.

3. What's the most rewarding assignment you've ever had and why?

One of my most rewarding assignments was handling a project for a client entering a highly regulated industry. The project involved reviewing complex corporate structures, assessing legal risks, and ensuring compliance with licensing requirements. The challenge was not only navigating the regulations and liaising with authorities, but also streamlining the process so the client could move forward smoothly and achieve their business goals. Seeing my work directly contribute to their successful market entry was incredibly fulfilling.

4. As an experienced NewLaw/ALSP consultant, where do you see NewLaw/ALSPs fitting into the matrix of the legal sector and how have you seen it evolve?

ALSPs are becoming an essential component of the legal sector, as they provide cost-effective, scalable, and technology-driven legal solutions that meet modern business needs.

Over the past few years, I’ve seen ALSPs expand their offerings from simpler support services to a broader range of solutions. As more businesses focus on streamlining operations and minimising overheads, the demand for ALSPs is expected to grow. In the long run, ALSPs are likely to continue evolving, potentially expanding their role into more complex areas of law and integrating more advanced technologies to transform how legal services are delivered.

5. What trends do you expect to see in the legal services industry in the next 5 years?

In the next five years, I believe the legal services industry will shift toward technology-driven solutions and alternative business models, fuelled by changing client expectations. Several key trends are expected to shape the industry:

• The expansion of LegalTech startups with innovative solutions that provide access to legal advice, automate processes, and address long-standing inefficiencies;
  
  
• Greater adoption of LegalTech and AI to predict case outcomes, assist in litigation strategy, and provide insights for legal teams;
  
  
• A stronger push toward flexible, on-demand legal services;
  
  
• Increased reliance on ALSPs for specialised work, including compliance and regulatory support;
  
  
• A shift toward alternative billing models, moving away from traditional hourly rates to more transparent and value-based pricing.

6. What's your favourite tune and why?  

I don't really have a favourite tune, as I've never been particularly drawn to music. It’s never been part of my routine so I haven't developed a strong preference for any specific song or genre. In terms of other personal interests, one book I truly appreciate is The Let Them Theory, which offers a simple yet powerful reminder that we don’t need to control how others think, feel, or act, but can instead focus on how we choose to respond. It helped me become more comfortable with setting boundaries and practicing acceptance in everyday situations, emphasizing a mindset of letting go of unnecessary emotional friction which is something I find highly practical both in personal interactions and in professional environments with diverse personalities.
