LegalTech Soapbox: Gamified legal learning with Lawyal Tech.
1. Hi Nabiha, tell us the story behind Lawyal Tech
A few years ago, when I was exploring LegalTech, I found myself at an impasse. I was eager to break into the field, but was struggling to find any structured guidance or courses on how to become a legal engineer or a legal technologist. There were very few industry resources in general, and what was available was fragmented.
Things started to shift when I participated in a document automation initiative, where students were invited to build a legal app on a platform. That hands-on experience was invaluable - it gave me a real-world understanding of LegalTech tools. However, even within that programme, I had to teach myself most of the skills, which was time-consuming.
From there, I joined a LegalTech startup’s sales department, but my interest in the technical side of law led me to transition into product development. Eventually, I moved into LegalTech consulting, working directly with law firms and corporate legal teams to implement contract lifecycle management (CLM) solutions and other automation tools.
Through these experiences, I realised there was a major gap: lawyers and legal professionals were expected to adopt complex technology with little to no structured training. Traditional courses were theoretical, and hands-on learning opportunities were rare.
That’s why I founded Lawyal Tech - to bridge this problematic gap by using gamification. The idea was simple:
- Instead of lengthy, passive courses, why not create interactive, hands-on simulations?
- What if lawyers could learn by doing, just like pilots use flight simulators before flying?
And that’s exactly what we’re building - the world’s first gaming platform for LegalTech training, designed to make learning accessible, engaging, and practical, helping legal teams adopt technology faster and more effectively.
2. What are the services or products that Lawyal Tech provides?
We offer interactive, immersive experiences designed to simulate real-world LegalTech tools. Instead of just reading about document automation, CLM, and legal process automation, users practise these skills in a gamified environment.
Our key products include:
- LegalTech Training Games – simulated scenarios where users complete tasks like automating documents, structuring workflows, and managing legal operations.
- Real-Life LegalTech Simulations – a hands-on approach where legal professionals work on live contract automation exercises and workflow-building tasks.
- Gamified Learning Experience – a points, rewards, and leaderboard system to engage and motivate learners.
- Corporate Training Modules – allowing law firms and in-house legal teams to use our platform for team-wide legal tech training.
- CLE-Accredited Courses (in development) – certified training programmes offered in partnership with bar associations and law schools.
3. How does the above optimise the daily operations of an in-house legal team/ law firm?
One of the biggest challenges in legal departments today is the slow adoption of technology. Many law firms and in-house legal teams invest in contract automation tools, CLM platforms, and AI-driven legal software, but their teams struggle to use them efficiently.
Lawyal Tech aims to solve this problem and the benefits for teams and individual professionals are multi-fold:
Rapid mastery of contract automation and CLM systems
Instead of spending weeks learning how to use a CLM system or document automation software, lawyers can practise within a game-based environment, making adoption much faster.
A reduction in human errors and improved compliance
By practising LegalTech workflows in a simulated and guided space, legal teams become more proficient at automating contract clauses, structuring legal documents, and applying conditional logic correctly, reducing errors in live contracts.
Greater efficiency and time savings
With proper training, LegalTech tools become enablers rather than obstacles. In-house teams can streamline contract management, improve document workflows, and speed up approvals, leading to better productivity.
Enhanced onboarding and continuous learning
New hires often struggle to grasp the company’s tech stack. Our games help law firms onboard associates faster while also providing ongoing upskilling opportunities for existing teams.
Ultimately, Lawyal Tech helps law firms and corporate legal departments integrate technology into their daily workflows seamlessly, making them more agile, compliant, and efficient.
4. What do you believe will be the most significant change in how in-house legal teams use technology in the next 10 years?
Over the next decade, the biggest transformation in legal teams will be the shift from manual processes to AI-driven, automated legal operations. In particular, we’ll see the following changes:
AI-powered contracting and decision-making
- AI will draft and review contracts in real time, significantly reducing the time lawyers spend on routine document tasks.
- Machine learning will analyse risk, suggest negotiation strategies, and auto-flag problematic clauses in contracts before they reach human review.
LegalTech training will become essential
- As automation takes over repetitive legal work, lawyers will need hands-on training in tech skills to remain competitive.
- Law schools and legal teams will integrate practical LegalTech training into their curriculums.
- Bar associations will make LegalTech training a requirement for CLE credits.
Gamification and simulation-based learning will be standard.
- The way lawyers learn LegalTech will fundamentally change - they’ll move away from static, theory-based courses toward interactive, scenario-based training.
- Platforms like Lawyal Tech will play a key role in this transformation by providing engaging, hands-on legal tech training environments.
The decentralisation of legal services
- Blockchain and smart contracts will automate dispute resolution and contract execution.
- Legal AI chatbots will handle routine queries, allowing lawyers to focus on higher-value tasks.
At Lawyal Tech, we’re building the foundations of this future. Legal professionals need to learn, adapt, and integrate technology into their practices, and we’re here to make that journey an impactful one.
